1571 : Works when you are in a call to someone else..
and someone calls… Stops them getting engaged (like voicemail on a mobile)
Some Home Phones show that messages are waiting but most are a small icon not a big red lamp.
Stand-alone answering Machine:
Some can remote interrogate it (call it when away and put in a password)
can more eaily see the message counter IF you put it somewhere easy to see.
basic 1571 is free
and if you add TPS ( if make 6 calls a month, and sign up for BT privacy) you have caller ID from free, and know how many people called
http://www.bt.com/btprivacy – then select Home security features
Advanced 1571 has a cost every month
Buy a machine is a one off cost….
Personally, I find the FREE 1571 works well for me.
I make a couple of calls each weekend (cost 8p setup fee) and it pays for itself.
I used to have a machine, but as I am never away for long periods, and also have voicemail I can access on the Mobile I use, if people need me, they can get me.
